Instructions for final RBO880 examination-Part three

A critical review of use of web-based tools and mobile devices as cognitive tools in
(AC generator theory)
Submitted by Abdalwahed Elsafi
1. Background
:
This topic was discussed the role of wee -based tools and mobile devices in web quest of AC generator theory. Its powerful learning and promote greater knowledge. Through the lecture, the students could, acquire knowledge, gaining attention, engagement, enhance learning in side body activity, motivation, and develop their critical thinking via the visual classroom situation. So I used web based tools and mobile devices, because I wont to learn students with new way, capturing by multi-media like video, animation, sound, graphics, that make students deeper understand and better remember. There are many tools specifically designed for share knowledge's like, blogger, flicker, face book, ning, and my space. See these photos below

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEbabAWoTzwoMQEEGtyVYK0rxQNJpff2fQOdw4JwpAMzNgRs5R3Wx-L4pRWymTSJPuAbxmiaqNhqpwCogaiNJtCQJGveWSozYQNBRXEAkYUdqiUWhVlclYp7lXhRSo-PHmxqSIwmBCY66-/s320/social_networking.jpg
Web-based tools and mobile devices suitable for use in the classroom. The Students can connect via the internet, gain information, share ideas and opinions, complete their task.
2. Methodology:
A web quest designed and executed with first Year University students
(1-hour). According to Bernie Dodge, a web quest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners interact with comes from the internet. (Eroucal 2005).
Therefore I used various tools that support process knowledge's. "The mental process classified in to six cognitive levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy from the simplest to most complex: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create (Mary Forehand 2005).
I concentrated on the flowing steps:
Introduction: I informed students about concept of AC generator.
Task: I asked the students four questions about the ac generator theory.
process: I divided the students in groups of four, each group have question to answer, I gave each group area for research with full explanation and guides, here I used many tools like write board to present text, flicker to present graphics, quia for quiz, also I created a video to show students components of ac generator and I put on you tube, then I gave students many sources related to animation of electromagnetic field.
Evaluation: the students assessed individually to answer on the quiz, and each group made presentation in the classroom.
Conclusion: students sent me my SMS in mobile about the information acquisition.
3. Finding:
Frankly, I have learned something's more than valuable, how to communicate with each other in or out of the classroom, deal with useful tools for learning, share my information and ideas, publisher my own works. These surly great tools, as well as mobile devices. According to (Mohamed Ally 2009) mobile devices namely it's learning delivered or supported solely or mainly handheld' .So I 'm really glad to get these experiences, this my way to create and interact with visual learning.
Positive things:

1- A mobile device can use any where, any time: it's easiest to the students, at home, in hotel, on the train, this is invaluable as tool for learning.
2- Supporting different senses: by using multimedia visualizations and representations.
3- Student's collaboration: learner's can work with group and mutual to fulfill their jobs.
4-Supplying teacher's by variety of rich sources: There are many on line tools designed specifically for educational purposes.
Negative things:
1-Distract students: Instead of using the tool for class purposes, students can focus on other thing
2- Technology breakdown: like power off, breakdown computer.
3- Low battery of mobile: due to operating of ringing of phone.
4- Screen of mobile device is small: it does not allow much information to display.

Day 5:11 June 2009

Task 7 - Conclusion
Describe in essay format what you have learnt about (pi) in no more that one A4 page.
History of pi.
I'm not know any thing about (pi) except (pi) = 3.14 as a mathematical ratio, but now more essential concepts about pi have been recognized.
Now I 'm understood fully what pi does it come, beginning with names of pi via interesting history even standard actually value that still used now.
The name of pi comes from the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of circle. The flowing histories have been written about pi:
Babylonians: (from Ca-1900-1680) The Babylonians calculated the area of circle by taking three times the squire of its radius (n=3) but the old Babylonians in their tablet taking found the value of pi = 3.125. Egyptian: Egyptian calculated the area of circle by the flowing formula where D= diameter of circle [{8d}/9]2. This means approximate value of 3.1605 for pi.
The theoretical of value of pi returned to Archimedes (287-212 BC) he worked out that 223/71<π 22/7. European: (1638-1675).
Games Gregory is European man who developed the air theatrical formula to approximate the value of pi.
Π/4 =1-1/3+1/5-1/7+………
The problem that occurred when the using the formula calculate is you would to add five million terms to work out value a value of π/4 that extent to 6 or 7 decimal place .
The person who flow James Gregory is named john machin (1706) he developed the formula of pi that still used to day by computer program to compute pi.
Π/4 =4 arc tan (1/5) – arc tan (1/239)
However I learned in consequence pi is a number equal 3.14, it's used to find the circumference and area of circle and where does it comes from, by more relevant interesting histories from the Babylonian , Egyptian, European and more histories and concepts that makes pi with easy and deep understand. Thus I can discuss and share my ideas that have been regarding to histories of pi with every one who wont makes from pi subject for discussion. Also here are more resources related to Pi.

RBO: Web based and mobile learning

Day 1: 7 June 2009
Task1: Meet on another
1.1 open any program that can you will prefer to use to report

I opened Microsoft word program that I prefer to report on.
1.2. What are your expectations of RPO?
I think this course is going to be very useful for teaching, because it include of basic concepts or learning theory such as constructivism, behaviourism and cognitivism that assist to build of educational . On the other hand web-based,mobile learning and web quest (tools for learning) are labeled in this course it have many advantages that serve in education. Thus my expectation from this course, my be well improve my educational field in e-learning.
1.3 What is web based and mobile learning?
Web based:

Web-based learning is often called online learning or e-learning because it includes on line course contain.
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/326/7394/870#SEC3
Therefore web –based have many features that supports and provide on line application course to assist in learning program.
Mobile Learning:
The term mobile learning (m-learning) refers to the use of mobile in learning and teaching.
http://www.excellencegateway.org.uk/page.aspx?o=ferl.aclearn.page.id958
Further more a mobile devices are useful in education as administration, organization that can assist teaching for practitioners, and also as learning support tools for learners. Here are some of the main benefits:
Learners can interact with each other and with the practitioner instead of hiding behind large monitors.
It’s much easier to accommodate several mobile devices in a classroom than several desktop computers.
These devices engage learners - young people who may have lost interest in education.
1.4 How you going to give this information to me?
By sending to your email or publish in my blogger.
Task 2: prior knowledge
2.1 What is learning?
A relatively permanent change in behavior that result from practice (Atkinson et al 1993).
http://www.learningandteaching.info/learning/whatlearn.htmhttp:/www.learningandteaching.info/learning/whatlearn.htm
When the learners learned something new that means changing happen in their mind, they organize, shape, and build their mind as result of acquisition knowledge's.
2.2 list the major learning theories'
·
Behaviorism
· Cognitivism
· Constructivism
· Objectivism

Behaviorism is

a worldview that assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to environmental stimuli.
http://www.learning-theories.com/behaviorism.html
The human behaviors combination form the negative and positive reinforcement, all the positive and negative reinforcements increase well be probability happen again, it concentrated on the measures of behaviors that being observed, but it seemed ignored the process mind or thought theory it being.
Cognitivism is

a theory which attempts to answer how and why people learn by attributing the process to cognitive activity.
http://www.coe.fau.edu/faculty/cafolla/courses/eme6051/Cognitivism.htm
It is very importance to understanding to understanding the mental process, how people lean, information acquisition, build knowledge's, a problems solving and thinking.
Constructivist is

based on students' active participation in problem-solving and critical thinking regarding a learning activity which they find relevant and engaging.
http://otec.uoregon.edu/learning_theory.htm
So this theory believe that the learners learn from the problems –solving, the prior knowledge's as experiences services in new situation learning.
Objectivism is

the philosophy developed by Ayn Rand; it is presented in her novel Atlas Shrugged Rand dramatized her ideal man, the producer who lives by his own effort and does not give or receive the undeserved, who honors achievement and rejects envy.
http://www.objectivistcenter.org/cth-32-408-FAQ_is_Objectivism.aspx
Objectivism theory believes that there is no greater moral goal than achieving happened, but one can not fulfill something by wish.
2.3 What is Blooms taxonomy/revise taxonomy
Cognitive
: mental skills (Knowledge).
Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude).
Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills).
Cognitive Domain
The cognitive domain (Bloom, 1956) involves knowledge and the development of intellectual skills.
http://www.nwlink.com/~Donclark/hrd/bloom.html
The cognitive domain include thinking, understanding and concepts that help peoples to build their and development of intellectual ability.
Affective Domain
The affective domain (Krathwohl, Bloom, Masia, 1973) includes the manner in which we deal with things emotionally, such as feelings, values, appreciation, enthusiasms, motivations, and attitudes.
http://www.usask.ca/education/coursework/802papers/mergel/brenda.htm
The affective domains reflection the behavior of peoples in difference situations in which they deal with things.
Psychomotor Domain
The psychomotor domain (Simpson, 1972) includes physical movement, coordination, and use of the motor-skill areas. Development of these skills requires practice and is measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution.
http://www.nwlink.com/~Donclark/hrd/bloom.html
This domain is characterized as high level of application knowledge's that requiring practice to lead to mastered skills.

Bloom's taxonomy

Task 3: Evaluation and assessment of own classroom practice select a lesson topic in your subject that you are going to work on this week.
Explain briefly how you present this lesson now in mind map (picture):
The name of lesson is measuring of voltage, current and resistance.
Firstly I well present information about voltage as potential and current as amount of charge of electrons moving through the conductors and I well give them necessary concepts of resistance that through the computer based lesson. Secondly student need to guidance, guidance in the for of examples and non- examples how to deal with device of current, voltage and resistance therefore I well give those hints and assist that help and led them to quickly understand.
The third phase I well concentrate to give the students activity to train on correct way of measure devices. I observe them and make correction when errors are observed; furthermore I well ask them questions about each device were taught.
Finally I well give test “power point” to measure effectiveness of the lesson as final message that help me to draw clear a picture about the lesson.
